There are many of coffee types, some are bad, some are good but some manually selected tea leaves and coffee beans are just amazing. We support community projects and NGO’s that are committed to quality improvement and consequently price improvements for the coffee farmers – organisations such as TechnoServe for example have worked across East Africa to assist with coffee infrastructure and producer knowledge. If the quality is high enough we will buy Fair Trade coffees. This organisation contributes a social premium to a smallholder cooperative which can be used towards projects which are beneficial to the whole community such as primary schools or medical dispensaries.
Our tea pick today : Matcha: Of the many different types of tea, Matcha is a little peculiar. You won’t find matcha leaves—this green tea comes as a stone-ground powder, and is so beloved in Japan that there’s a ceremony centered around how to prepare and serve it. If you see green-tea ice cream, that’s derived from matcha. Sencha: Sencha is also one of the most-popular Japanese teas, but it differs from matcha in that it’s served as leaves, not as a powder, and grown in the sunlight (whereas matcha is grown in shaded areas). Eco friendly coffee advice of the day : Brew Manually: Manual coffee brewers stand in defiance against another one of the great challenges to eco-friendly coffee: auto drip coffee makers. If you take a stroll to your neighborhood supermarket and look at the coffeemakers, you’ll realize a couple things. Firstly, they are cheaply priced. Secondly, they are cheaply made. These coffee pots are plastic-guzzlers that are built to break, requiring the manufacturing of more and more of them. It’s an endless cycle of wasteful manufacturing. Manual coffee brewers, on the other hand, are simply constructed and built to last. They are made of few parts (often just one), rarely require replacing, and can serve you for decades. Manual coffee brewing is amazing in a variety of ways, but their eco-friendly properties are one of the chief advantages (especially if they use a metal filter).
